The day against homophobia

17/05/2012 20:05

On the international day against homophobia, besides the numerous
declarations from all European institutions and their leaders, the
direct message against discrimination and homophobia was distributed
through a video-registration.

“We are European Parliament Members and EU leaders. We are lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, heterosexuals and together we want to send a message to the youth in Europe. Life today could be a challenge if someone is homosexual, bisexual or transsexual, but we are working strongly for improving it. Here in Brussels there is no time to lose and we must be vigilant and work hard with hundreds of colleagues, in order to end the homophobia and transphobia”, was the message of the European Parliament Members.

“Well known MPs from all the member countries, commissioners and vice presidents of the European Commission, and also the EU President, Herman Van Rompuy, joined this message by guaranteeing that they are working for building a better society for everyone.

“I am Martin Schults, President of the European Parliament. We are working for making it better. I am Neeli Kroes. I Am Commissioner Andris Peibalgs. I am Cecilia Malmstrom, member of the European Commission. I am Laslo Andor. We are working to make it better. I guarantee you that it will be better. I am Viviane Reding, vice President of the European Commission. I am Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council. My duty is to make things get better. And it is getting better. There is no place for homophobia in Europe”, the message concludes.

The message has been realized by the inter-parliamentary group of Lesbians, Homosexuals, Bisexuals and Transsexuals of the European Parliament, which has 132 members and six presidents, from 754 MPs in total at this institution.
