The Democratic Party MPs voted today at the Parliamentary Commission of Economy the 18.4 billion ALL expense cuts in the new budget.
The Democrats raised their hands to vote for shrinking funds on public investments, wage and pension increases, and even on social protection measures. The government declared that it was obliged to take these measures, since the finances of the Albanian government were weakened by the high debt.
But on the same time when the MPs of the Commission of Economy were voting the law that leaves the poorest families of the country without the financial assistance on energy consumption, on the other room of the Parliament, other MPs of the Democratic Party passed another law, that of building a governmental edifice that will cost 110 million EUR or 15 billion ALL, 90% of the cuts that the government decided to make on the budget.
The majority says that they have found the money from Arab countries, and promises that it will be a grant, not a debt. But the fact is that on the same time, the government voted two laws in the Parliament where they have the majority. One law that cancels government assistance to poor people all over Albania, and another law that gives to this government the luxury of a 110 million EUR building in the middle of Tirana, close to the Prime Minister’s Office.
