The battle for pipelines

The Ministry of Economy thinks that the report presented at the Foreign
Committee of the US Senate regarding the European pipelines does not
damage the chances of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline that goes through
Albania.

“That was not the stance of the US government, but a thorough analysis that the US Senate and Congress makes often in different part of the administration. It was a recommendation that we should read better and deeper. The US government supports the diversification of the energy sources in the EU through the Caspian Sea. It’s a matter of race and transparency for the winning project”, declared Dorian Ducka, Director of the International Projects at this Ministry.

Ducka says that economic interests are more able to define what will be the winning projects.

“The advantages of the TAP project are that it is a commercial and economic project. The strategic side is the most economic side, since the EU and its consumers will profit natural gas at low price, when the length of the pipeline will be shorter and will have more chances to be built quicker than that of the rival”, Ducka declared.

For this reason the government believes that the project with the bigger chances is TAP, and the decision will be taken in the first six months of this year.

“TAP was considered the winning project at first, or that went to the finals first. It was one of the newest projects and has advanced a lot. I believe that there are bigger chances for TAP”, Ducka declared.

A few days ago, Richard Lugar, a renowned US senator, presented a report in the US Senate where he appealed his government to lobby for Nabucco, which, according to him, is more favourable for the US geopolitical interests.
