Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The task-force established recently against the people who violate the
anti-smoking law have started giving fines to bar owners who were find
with clients smoking or with ash trays on tables.
Most of the bars were informed that this action would start on September third and they were cautious in placing the anti-smoking signs. Some of them even did not allow clients to smoke indoors. But most of them are skeptical, saying that same as in the first operation, some of the business will be fined and others will be favored.
“It is very difficult to communicate to the client that smoking is not allowed, although we appreciate the initiative of the government. But this measure must be taken equally, and not make differences among bars that have support”, declared Janko Rushi, bar manager.
Another phenomenon identified during this action was the report of owners who do not respect the anti-smoking law by those who respect it. The Health Ministry task-force gave a 50.000 ALL fine after they found clients smoking inside a bar.
“We carried out 22 inspections and we caught only one law violation. The owner was fined with 50.000 ALL. We will continue inspecting 247 and we ask the bar owners to understand us”, declared Roland Shuperka, coordinator of the anti-smoking law.
If the subject will not pay the fine within 10 days, the owners will gave to pay interest delays. The task-force of the Ministry only inspects on terrain, while other groups continue their work. Before starting this operation, the authorities declared that the phone calls to remove the fines will not work this time.
