Thaci, no special status for North

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, declared that the proposal
for a special status for the North is not acceptable for Prishtina.

In the meeting held this Monday by Serbian journalists, Thaci declared that the only resolution for the problematic area of Northern Kosovo remains the implementation of the Ahtisari plan.

“There will be no autonomy or special status, but the affirmation and respecting of the northern citizens’ rights, who will elect their leaders on their own”, Thaci declared.

According to the report of the Serbian media, the head of the Kosovo government rejected the proposition of the Swedish Foreign Minister, Carl Bildt, for a new dialogue process for Northern Kosovo.

According to the sources, Thaci declared to the Serbian journalists that Resolution 1244 recognizes the territorial integrity of Kosovo, in full accordance with the European Standard, and this is the reason why he supports it.

However, the Prime Minister refused to specify if it was acceptable for him the formula that this resolution uses for identifying Kosovo in regional forums.

“Every formula that preserves the sovereignty of Kosovo is acceptable for us”, Thaci declared for the reporters that had came from Belgrade.

He underlined that the dialogue with the Serbian part will continue, and that the recent agreement for an integrated management of the borders is very positive.

Earlier during the month, the Kosovo Prime Minister declared that the state of Kosovo is very clear about the red lines, regarding the dialogue with Serbia for technical matters.

Thaci added that the Kosovo delegation for the dialogue with Serbia will not tolerate in regard of integrated border management.
