Limaj was one of the defendants, once member of this cabinet.
The Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, declared that he has always supported justice, because he always trusted the innocence of the commanders that fought for freedom. The Prime Minister said that he welcomes Limaj and the others to return to their state and family engagements.
Prime Minister Thaci trusted that Ramush Haradinaj would be released soon, together with the other fighters who are undergoing a judicial process at the Hague Court.
Limaj’s release was welcomed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo, in which MP Limaj acts as a vice leader.
Fatmir Limaj found innocent
Fatmir Limaj was found innocent and released of all charges. As expected, the Pristine Court found innocent the Kosovo MP, Fatmir Limaj, and three other army officers, Nexhmi Krasniqi, Naser Shala and Naser Krasniqi.
The leader of the Kosovo Democratic Party, one of the best known former commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, also known as “Steel”, qwas accused of ordering inhuman tortures of Serbian civilians that were imprisoned in the Klecka village, Lipjan, in 1999. He was accused of war crimes against civil population and war prisoners, including murder. The Italian Prosecutor, Maurizio Salustro, declared that he will appeal the decision.
The Court excluded from the witness list the declaration of Agim Zogaj, also known as Witness X, on whom most of the Prosecution evidence was based. This is the second time that Limaj is declared innocent for war crimes. He was tried and declared innocent by the Hague Court for war crimes in Llapushnik.
