After the conference for the implementation of the territorial reform,
the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, underlined that the core of the
reform is the creation of economic development units.
“We have not created bigger municipalities to continue as before. We had 50% of these local units that didn’t bring any profits, but were kept by the budget. The budget will keep supporting them, but they will produce funds for their spending”, Rama declared.
“We don’t have the luxury of self-destruction. These new units will be a valuable instrument for a new approach to the usage of natural resources”, the Prime Minister added.
The Minister of Local Matters, Bledi Cuci, explained the consolidation process of the new 61 municipalities.
“We have a methodology that should be followed by all new mayors that will be voted”, Cuci declared, adding that for the realization of this project they have contracted one of the four best companies of the world.
