Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future One in four families in Tepelena received economic assistance from the
Municipality. The requests for being part of the scheme have constantly
increased due to the great number of unemployed people that wander the
city without any employment chances.
The residents say that this is the worst situation that the country is experiencing in the last 20 years. Dozens of businesses were closed while the construction companies have left 1500 families without jobs on the last 2-3 years.
The Mayor of the city, Termet Peci, declared that hundreds of people ask for jobs at the Municipality each day.
50 families that have turned from emigration this year see no employment opportunities in Tepelena. They have been registered in the scheme of unemployed people, while this contingent has opened no new self-employment business in Tepelena. Most of the people that have returned from emigration are abandoning the town for bigger cities.
