Tension rise in Mitrovica, one day before the Government of Kosovo undertakes the plan for taking under control the border checkpoints
no. 1 and 31. This plan that was approved by the international
community has caused Northern Kosovo Serbs to escalate their protest.

The news agency Kosovapress reports that the Serbian citizens have displaced their roadblocks farther into south, blocking the Iber River Bridge, which connects the southern part of the town of Albanian population, with the Serbian northern side.

The road was blocked right after midnight, when the Serbs destroyed the security cameras placed in the area due to the strategic value of the bridge, which has frequently been transformed into the interethnic battlefield between Serbs and Albanians.

Kosovapress says that KFOR and Kosovo Police forces are going to the scene.

The plan for turning the border checkpoints to functionality is expected to start on September 16th, based on the Prishtina-Belgrade agreement for recognizing the Kosovo Customs stamps.
