Telekom Serbia has officially confirmed that they are negotiating to buy the second biggest mobile phone operator in Albania, Telekom Albania.

Telekom Serbia declared for B92 that they have made a bid, but couldn’t disclose further details.

Telekom Albania is owned by Deutsche Telekom, through the Greek group, “OTE”.

A few days ago they officially confirmed the decision to sell Telekom Albania, without further details.

Unofficial sources say that there are two other companies competing as well, but Telekom Serbia is the main candidate.

According to these sources, the leaders of Deutsche Telekom and Telekom Serbia are expected to arrive in Tirana within a few days, to receive the consent of the Albanian government.

Telekom Albania is the second biggest operator of electronic communication in the country, owning 24% of the market.

Last year, the company reported a loss of 36 million EUR, after a minimal profit of 1.2 million EUR that they reported in 2016.

The small market, weak financial results and the business climate seem to be the main reasons why Deutsche Telekom decided to leave Albania.
