Tax Office predicts another month of crisis

Facts show that in April, income from taxes was 50 million USD less than in the first trimester of 2010, and the budget plan is even worse.

Experts predict gloomy numbers for May, a period culminated by the electoral campaign and Local Elections.

However, Albanian businesses declare that the weak economic situation is not due to the campaign, but to money circulation and buying power.

“The activity has reduced. I keep my books every month, and the turnover has decreased with 50%. Consumers don’t buy as they used to. Looks like they are frightened by something, or maybe of the increased prices”, declared one subject in the trade area.  

In the Tax Office we learn that many businesses have not declared their tax on profits, but also other obligations, like the contributes and VAT, for which they will be fined.

Almost in the same situation are accountability offices and experts, people who have constant contacts with the private subjects.

“We see a blocking, a stalemate. It looks like one damaged sector has infected all others, and it is acting like a domino effect”, says Klodian Braçaj, accountable expert.

In the last trimester of 2010, retail sales were 1.2% lower than one year ago. While during the first trimester of 2011, the import of consume products was 1.4% lower than the same period in 2010.
