Tax for antennas, Municipality withdraws

The Municipality of Tirana withdrew from the decision to establish a 2
million annual tax for every cell phone antenna placed on apartment
buildings by companies.

This decision was approved on 24 December 2012, but two weeks later the Prime Minister asked the Municipalities to not establish such a tax for cell-phone companies.

“We will review the request of the government leader and every other consequence if there will be a legislative act from the government and parliament. The Municipality is not outside the legal order. We will review our act with the current legislation and the European standard, in full cooperation with the central government”, Basha declared.

The decision was approved only with the majority’s votes, while the opposition opposed it.

“Basha who is speaking about reviewing this decision, should have listened to the opposition, which is against any tax establishment for companies and businesses. The fact that it is being reviewed now by the government means that they are acting this way due to different interests. But it would have been better for the Tirana Municipal Council to listen to the opposition’s voice and not return to the point when the Prime Minister is the one suggesting. The only Municipality that has applied this tax is that of Tirana”, declared Aldrin Dalipi, head of the Socialist Councillors.

This tax would be applied only at the Tirana Municipality, where there are 260 antennas. But the Prime Minister’s request must relieve the companies from this tax.
