Polish ambassador in Tirana, Irena Tatarzynska, declares that the
political stalemate in Albania remains a big obstacle for the
EU integration process.
In an interview for radio Deutsche Welle, the ambassador of the country that took over the EU presidency noted that the lack of dialogue between parties has been continuing since the general elections of 2009, and that the country should be focused on the fulfillment of the criteria and conditions set by EU, since it is the only way of integration.
“Now that the local elections for Tirana are a closed chapter, I think that it is time to focus on the main integration issues, in order to enable a positive answer for the 12 aspects that have been identified by the EU Commission for Albania”, Tatarzynska declared.
The Polish diplomat accredited in Tirana emphasized that Albania’s chances for receiving the candidate status are completely up to the Albanians.
“When will the obligations be fulfilled? This is completely up to the Albanian politicians and government”, the ambassador declared.
As for May 8th local elections, the ambassador declared that the OSCE/ODIHR final report has not been published yet, but preliminary reports and the stances of the Baroness Ashton and Commissioner Fule have expressed the concern for the polarized spirit that was noted in the behavior of the Central Election Commission and the Electoral College of the Court of Appeal in Tirana.
“The international community has clearly communicated that the improvement of the electoral code should be made based on the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations. These stances clearly show the importance of realizing the electoral reform in Albania”, the ambassador declared.
