The Albanian Prime Minister is participating at the World Economic Forum
in Azerbaijan, where he met with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.

The Trans Adriatic Project, for which the Prime Minister is lobbying for more than two years, was valued by the two politicians as the project that serves to a quick progress of the friendly relations created between the two countries in the past couple of years.

Shah Deniz 2 Consortium has not taken the final decision if they will choose the Trans Adriatic Pipeline that involves Albania, or Nabuco, the rival project. This decision is about the path through which the Azeri gas will be transported from the Caspian Sea to Western Europe.

President Aliyev told Prime Minister Berisha that this decision will be taken in a few months, around June. Until then, Albania and Azerbaijan will diversify the cooperation projects.

One of these projects is a master plan for installing a gas system in Albania. Prime Minister Berisha asked the help of President Aliyev, who promised full support from Azerbaijan not only for this master plan, but also for the implementation of this project by the Azeri companies, which are known for their expertise in the gas area.

During his stay in Baku, Berisha met his Azeri homologue, Artur Rasizade, with whom he signed the agreement “For an economic, industrial and technological cooperation between the two countries”, through which Albania and Azerbaijan are committed to create a good climate for investments. Albania has interest to have rich Azeri companies invest in Albania not only in the energy field, but also in tourism. The Prime Minister notified the Azeri citizens through the Azeri media that Albania has removed the visa for everyone who wants to visit Albania for tourism from this country.

Berisha was interviewed by CNN International for the economic situation in the country, which, according to the Prime Minister, has been praised by the international media and institutions, since Albania is ranked among the few countries that is preserving a positive economic growth, due to the reforms taken recently, and didn’t fall in recession like its two closest neighbours, Greece and Italy.
