Syrians: “Albania must let us through”

162 Syrian refugees in Konitza, 20 minutes from the Albanian border, are
already learning their way around their new temporary residence.

They take walks around the town, receive help from residents and everything seems fine, but they don’t want to stay there. Their purpose is to continue their path through Albania.

The Mayor of Konitsa, Prodromos Hatziefremidis, said they are better than the refugees in Idromeni in his town, but they must find a solution after 15 days. Their target is the EU, not the small city of Konitsa.

One Syrian says they know they are close to Albania and they hope our authorities will let them through, if the Macedonian border stays shut.

“We are here because we respect the Greek government, who told us we’d be staying here for 15 days, and then we’ll see. If nothing will happen, we will walk towards Albania hoping the Albanian government will help us avoid the suffering we saw in the border of Macedonia”, another one added.
