The Embassy of Switzerland has celebrated its 25th anniversary in Albania through a movie cooperation.
Eric Bergkraut, Swiss director and producer, after getting better acquainted to the past of our country, had the idea to realize a documentary about this confrontation with the past.
In cooperation with students of the Marubi Academy of Film and Multimedia, and under the care of Director Kujtim Cashku, they bring in this documentary seven Albanian stories which show experiences from the communism period, seen from different perspectives.
“You may ask why are we celebrating the 25th birthday of the Swiss Embassy in Albania with the premiere of a documentary about a near past? The short answer is that in Switzerland we would like to contribute as much as we can for the Albanian society to accept its history, and that it can be even more known”, declared Ambassador Cirstoph Graf.
This acceptance of our history, through art, is the contribution of Switzerland for these 25 years of relations with Albania, especially for youth.
“In my country, artists and intellectuals go sometimes against governments and they are never put in danger for this. Sometimes artists agree and are grateful for activities for their countries. This is my matter today. I am not in Albania to lecture anyone. I am simply trying to share my experience. This, I think, is the only way to learn”, said Director Eric Bergkraut.
“In one room we have people from the West, clergymen, former political prisoners, youth… this composition is the most important part of the reflection process, which has started gradually in our country”, added Albanian Director Kujtim Cashku.
