Supreme Court law blocked

The Supreme Court law did not pass. The
opposition asked the majority to fulfill some conditions in exchange of consensus, such as the resolution of the Fier Municipal Council problem, the Parliamentary reform and the
unblocking of government funds for local administratio.

Sources at the Socialist Party say that this decision was officially taken during a meeting of the opposition leader, Edi Rama, with the Commission of Laws members on which they agreed that the SP will not vote the Supreme Court law for as long that there is no verdict for the Fier District. The Socialists’ logic stands on the fact that they cannot vote laws that are not implemented.

Fatmir Xhafaj:
We cannot review these draft-laws, because while we are talking about the Supreme Court law, you have blocked the implementation of the Supreme Court verdicts, to return the legal institutions to the electors of that district.

Ilir Rusmali:
I don’t execute Court orders. We are not a bailiff office. Who can take the responsibility to execute a Court Order? You need a license for that. Have any of your colleagues a bailiff license? Let’s turn to the things that we can do together here. We are ready to work seriously with you for any kind of law amends of this country.

Fatmir Xhafaj:
This is on the hands of one man, Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who has blocked the Fier District’s work. The debate for the qualified majority draft-laws cannot continue today or tomorrow without resolving these issues.

Ilir Rusmali
: Why must we follow every pseudo-argument just to block our work! We have an offer, you have nothing. Let’s make a deep intervention, but how is it possible that there is no amend on your behalf, just because someone wants to block it? This is a blockage and nothing else.
