The Supreme Court rejected the appeal of the Prosecution General, which
insisted until the last phase for the January 21st case, for sentencing
Ndrea Prendi with 23 years in prison, and Agim Llupo with 25.

Ndrea Prendi, former National Guard Commander, and Agim Llupo, a former high-level officer, were accused for the murder of four protesters on January 21st, 2011, in front of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Verdict had not been sent to the Secretary of the Court until this Monday, and the information is not confirmed officially. The College of the Supreme Court has gathered this Friday and the verdict to reject the Prosecution’s request for retrial seems to have been taken this Monday.

The College is made of Edmond Islamaj, Artan Zeneli, Aleksander Muskaj, Guxim Zenelaj and Shkelzen Selimi. This leaves in power the verdict of the Court of Appeal in Tirana, which sentenced Ndrea Prendi with one year in prison, and Agim Llupo with three.

The former driver of the former Commander, Margarit Kume, was found not guilty. This loss of the Prosecution marks the final stage of this important trial with political consequences.
