A few hours before the publishing of the European Commission report, the
joint declaration of 18 member countries of the Central European
Initiative have released a declaration in which they welcome the
candidate status for Albania.
This declaration closed the works of the conference of the Central European Initiative, which is led by Austria, an European Union member that recently has been very active in favor of Albania’s candidate status.
“We welcome the positive stance of the Council in June”, says the declaration of the 18 Foreign Ministers of CEI, underlining the continuing support for the enlargement of the European Union with Western Balkan countries.
The Head of our Diplomacy, Ditmir Bishati, present in this conference, thanked his homologues about the support given to Albania through this declaration.
The strong support from Vienna, where the Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, was also present, arrived from the Foreign Minister of Italy, whose country will take the European Union presidency this July. Another support declaration came from the Greek Foreign Minister, whose country currently has the presidency of the European Union.
“We hope that the Council of Europe will decide in favor of Albania’s candidate status this June. It would be the right recognition of the reforms and of the political will of this government to progress with the reforms. Before this good will, the European Union needs credibility, in order to accept the steps forward that have been taken and encourage them”, declared the Italian Foreign Minister, Federica Mogherini.
“Greece has been positive and encouraging since last December for the candidate status, and we hope that the Council of Minsiters will decide in the next meeting”, declared the Greek Foreign Minister, Evangelos Venizellos.
“I am not speaking only about reforms, bout about credible reforms that bring profit to the peoples of these countries in the entire accession process, and not only when it is over”, Commissioner Fule declared.
“If you see the region today, it seems like we are in the last kilometers when the enemies become neighbors, and this is thanks to the transforming power of the European Union and the enlargement policy”, declared the Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati.
