The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, who is part of the summit for
Balkan that is being held in Brussels, organized by the European
Commission, met today with the Prime Minister of Serbia, Alexandar
Vucic.
The conversation focused on a joint project between Western Balkan countries that will appear at today’s meeting between leaders of these countries and officials of the EU.
The concrete projects for which Rama and Vucic gave their full support are the Nish-Prishtina-Durres highway, which will also connect Belgrade with Budapest, and the Adriatic-Ionnian highway that connects Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Greece.
Rama underlined that the relations between Albania and Serbia are very important for the social and economic stability and development of Balkan and Europe in general.
“Serbia and Albania must see ahead and make for Balkan what Germany and France made after the WWII for Europe. It is important to understand that Balkan needs the EU as much as the EU needs Balkan”, he said.
Prime Minister Vucic expressed the support of the Serbian government to the two projects, and underlined that the EU must understand and support Western Balkan countries, and that the support of these projects should encourage the economy of both countries.
Vucic confirmed his visit to Albania by the end of May, in Tirana.
Earlier today Rama met with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, deputy Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, the Montenegrin counterpart, Milo Gjukanovic, and the Commissioner for Foreign Policy, Mogherini.
