Summer’s Day, Albanians celebrate

The nature today agreed with the calendar, March 14th, the Summer’s Day.
As every year, the city of Elbasan was the capital of the celebration.
Thousands of people visited the city and its suburbs for celebrating.

The Summer’s day is not only for the Elbasan citizens. In this city it is celebrated also by other citizens from all over the country.

It cannot be a Summer’s Day without the “ballakume”, the traditional cookie from Elbasan, and the meeting with nature. All citizens, after celebrating in the center of the city, go with their friends and families in the beautiful areas of the city suburbs or in restaurants.

The Summer’s Day origin is at the Cermenika Fairy Sanctuary, built in the Elbasan city suburbs. She was the goddess of hunting, forests and all nature. According to the story, this fairy came out the sanctuary only on March 14th. This popular celebration was a tradition that today identifies the city of Elbasan, known for special cultural traditions.

Celebration in Tirana, people gather on streets

For the 8th consequent year, the Summer’s Day is celebrated in Tirana, when thousands of people have filled the “Deshmoret e Kombit” boulevard, for enjoying the activities organized by the Tirana Municipality.

The flowers, the symbol of this celebration, were the center of this day, followed with the traditional “ballakume” of Elbasan. The entertainments for children have been very diverse, starting with concerts, paintings and other activities.

A novelty for the Summer’s Day was the fair with Albanian goods, which has joined businesses of all Albanian lands, accompanied by the city’s ensemble.

“To this Summer’s Day is added another really essential dimension, related with the food quantity, the quality of life, the way how we chose to live or taste our lives. Today, through this fair, we show that we have a great potential for living our lives better, although we live within the borders of Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro or Macedonia, being proud for what unifies us, our past, and by seeing with trust what unites us in our future, which is the high and unchangeable quality of the Albanian goods”, Basha declared.

In the “3 Vellezerit was composed the City of Art, surrounded with pictures of students from the Jordan Misja Lyceum, and with rock music.

Berisha: We will open the new road within 2013

Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who has turned in a tradition celebrating the Summer’s Day in Elbasan, this year took with him not only his wife, but even his nieces.

They celebrated with Elbasan citizens, and Prime Minister Berisha declared that March 14th is the day of recovering forces and energy, two elements that for the Prime Minister are much related with the evaluation of the Albanian economy.

“We are celebrating better than ever, because despite the deep crisis of the European countries, the Albanian economy is stable, growing, creating new jobs and increasing production”, Berisha declared.

Promising to the Mayor of Elbasan the government’s support for the development of the city, Berisha guaranteed the citizens that next year, people will travel from Tirana to Elbasan through the new tunnel, a time that coincides with the next electoral campaign.

“We celebrate better than ever, because we are a few weeks away from the day when the tunnel’s light will be seen in both sides, and next year, all Tirana will be in Elbasan for March 14th”, Berisha declared.

Rama: Together for the National Rebirth

The opposition leader, Edi Rama, accompanied by his wife Linda, preferred to celebrate the Summer’s Day in Elbasan.

Rama declared that on such traditions, a National Rebirth is needed more than ever.

“This beautiful popular celebration, together with the return of the warm Sun, serves to ease the social wounds and problems of the common people, who in days like this we feel the need for an Albanian Rebirth, who suffer unemployment and need a real employment. Who must pay more taxes than the rich, and we need fair taxation. The people are unable to receive hospital treatment, when they have no money, and they need public service according to their needs.

The opposition leader respected the tradition by placing a “verore” on his wrist, and together with MPs from the Elbasan District Rama visited the Traditional Fair of the Summer’s Day.
