Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The doctors of the Cardio Surgery University Hospital Center in Tirana
have realized for the first time 4 rare heart operations. A 49 year old
woman was presented with a broken aorta.
The head of the Cardio Surgery Service, Edvin Prifti, explains that rare surgery heart interventions have also been performed in newborns.
“The woman came in an emergency situation at our service, and for the first time in Albania, and as far as we know, even in Balkan, we realized a new intervention, called “Dave’s Intervention”. We hope that this initiative will find professional and financial support for the next year and later, so that we can realize other projects, such as children surgery”, Prifti declared.
The woman had gone to the private hospitals, but they had not admitted her.
“No Albanian should travel outside the country for heart surgeries. We have here the best center in Albania for these interventions”, the experts say.
The director of the hospital center, Saimir Ivziku, valued the doctors’ team for the rare heart interventions and guaranteed support for their projects.
“The Tirana University Hospital Center has made very difficult interventions, starting with a four day old baby and even to old ages, who have many complications. I would like to confirm the support that the Directory of this Institution will give regarding the medicaments and other necessary materials”, Ivziku declared.
According to the statistics, 300 babies with heart problems are born in our country, and the doctors say that the parents’ concern ends at the Tirana University Hospital Center, without traveling at the neighboring countries.
