Tirana seems full of tourists in these summer days, as eight million visitors are expected to stop here this year.
But Albanians themselves are not able to become tourists because according to an annual survey of the “Barometer of the Balkans” for the 2023, 60% of Albanians cannot afford to spend on a 1-week vacation.
“I work in construction. I haven’t seen the seaside for 4 years. I receive about 2000 lek per day, I have a child and my wife does not work. I work 15-20 days a month. We are in debt”, says a citizen.
“We don’t think about holidays. I work in a fast food restaurant. I will stay at home because I don’t have money to take the road for vacation, not even to Durrës”, says another citizen from Tirana.
“A minimum price room costs 70,000 ALL. The sunbed costs a lot. A lunch with the simplest things costs about 10,000 ALL. Where can I go to rest me that I receive only 40,000 lek a month?”, says another gentleman.
“5% of Albanians go on vacation while 95% cannot. Even with only bread, cheese and tomatoes, we can’t make it with the prices”, says another citizen.
