Strong measures against domestic violence

After the tragic news that ended with the death of violated wives inside
their homes by their own husbands, the experts urge the change of the
Penal Code, which must punish the violators harder.
There have been 2029 cases of domestic violence to the police, and 1248 have been taken under custody.
The Ministry of Labor declared that on 19 December will be signed the convention of the Council of Europe for stopping the domestic violence against women.
The Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, has supported this initiative for the protection of women.
“Violence against women requires today more than ever a full approach for its prevention, and the protection of the victims by asking all relevant institutions to cooperate, such as the Social Services, the Police, and Children Protection. A protection and safety network should be established through a national policy”, Topalli declared.
Different to many years ago, the domestic violence this time has spread throughout the country. This year, the biggest number of reports comes from Tirana, with 643 cases, Fier with 334, Durres with 227 and Korca with 167.
