The storm “Ciaran” hit Albania this morning for the second day, with heavy downpour of rain and strong winds, causing disturbances in the circulation of vehicles on important road axes.

Teams from the Civil Protection Agency, firemen and the state police have intervened to help citizens in difficulty.

A traffic police officer in Tirana was injured by a object that fell from the height, while he was working with road traffic.

Meanwhile the authorities intervened to help 23 foreign tourists who were stranded in the Langarica canyon in the southeast of the country, as result of the heavy flow of the river.

While yesterday afternoon, when the storm was at its strongest, there were 2 fatal road accidents, one in Fier and the other in Morina where the drivers lost their lives.

In some road axes in Shkodër, Dibër, Elbasan, Berat and Korçë, work is still being done to clean the roads, as water floods from streams or landslides have left behind inert materials. Such problems have also been encountered in the Tepelena municipality. Due to the weather conditions during these two days there was a temporary suspension of operations in the port of Durrës and that of Vlora.

Problems in the last two days have also been encountered in the supply of energy in remote areas of Gjirokastra, Vlora, Berati, Fieri, Korça, Dibra and Elbasani.
