Since Saturday afternoon significant rainfall has covered areas of central and northeastern Albania, which has turned into snow in higher mountainous areas.
Steady snowfall started in the northeastern city of Peshkopia this evening.
It rained throughout the day and began to snow heavily after 3:30 p.m.
In the Kala e Doda area, the thickness of the snow is reported to be up to 30 centimeters.
Bulqiza is also facing heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Police have appealed to drivers to use snow chains and avoid driving at night as the rainfall continues to be intense.
The thickness of the snow in the city of Bulqiza has reached 15 centimeters, while in the surrounding administrative units in Bulqize the thickness of the snow reaches from 15 centimeters to 40 centimeters in the deepest areas.
Snowfall has also started in the mountainous areas of Librazhd in central Albania.
In Fushe Studë the thickness of the snow was reported up to 20 cm.
Temperatures have currently dropped to -3 degrees, and are expected to drop further during the night.
Snow removal vehicles have gone out to keep the Librazhd-Peshkopi national road axis open, the authorities report.
