Great Britain, one of the most skeptic countries for the candidate
status of Albania, has not announced a final decision for their official
stance. After today’s meeting with the UK Minister of Euroepan Matter,
David Lidington, at the British Foreign Office in London, the Albanian
Minister of Integration, Klajda Gjoshaj, declared that the stance of
Britain is yet to be discussed.
Although the Minister considered today’s meeting as important, she said that Great Britain has a positive view on the achievements of the Albanian government in the fight against organized crime, corruption and the justice reform.
To Top Channel’s question if Britain might say “yes” to Albania’s candidate status, Mrs.Gjosha answered: “This remains to be discussed. Certainly that Mr.Lindington informed me that there will be another meeting during this week between the British government officials, who will discuss their decision. I am interested on the fact that they see the achievements of our government with a positive eye”, the Minister declared.
Britain and France are two countries which might still hesitate to support the recommendation of the European Commission for the Candidate Status. This hesitation is more connected with the internal political issues of these countries, after the spectacolary victories of the anti-European Union parties in the recent elections of the Euroepan Parliament.
This stance doesn’t seem to have changed, even after today’s visit of the Albanian Minister of Integration to the Foreign Office of London.
Minister Tahiri receives support from Alfano
The Albanian Minister of Interior Affairs, Saimir Tahiri, attended a meeting in Italy where he met with his counterpart, Angelino Alfano.
The Italian Minister of Interior valued the results of the Albanian police during the past months. Tahiri and Alfano talked about reinforcing cooperation in the fight against the drug traffic, while the Italian Minister expressed his readiness of Italy to offer assistance in the fight against drug cultivation.
He didn’t forget to mention the candidate status of Albania, for which Alfano declared that Italy would lobby in favor of Albania.
