The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, reiterated his stance that the
accession of Western Balkan in the European Union serves to the security
of the continent as much as to Balkan and European Union integration.
Relating this to the increased number of supporters for the extremist forces in the European Parliament, Rama declared that the hesitation for the candidate status of Albania is an expression of the inability of the European Union to see further than the next elections.
“Albania should have received the status in December, if we could have had less political conflict, less desire to turn everything into a conflict and lose the status just to blame the other party. We would have had more chances to progress in various aspects”, Rama declared.
For the United States Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, the European Union enlargement with Western Balkan countries is an issue that doesn’t belong only to the aspiring countries that want to enter the European Union, but also of those that are members of the European Union.
“It’s not only the aspiring countries who want the unification, but also those who are inside the block. Their long-term safety, the welfare of their citizens depends on the peace and harmony in the continent. This has always been the stance of the United States, because we believe in Europe, in the future of our citizens, not just for one part of the continent, but in total”, Ambassador Arvizu declared.
