After the deadline of 30 days in prison, the Court ruled that the former
director of the National Stadium, Gazmend Sallaku, will remain in
prison for other 20 days for his corruption charges.

Since the prosecution had not verified the pretenses of the defense for the bad health situation of their client, the Court demanded to finalize this medical test during this time. They also asked to better specify the declaration, because the suit said that Sallaku had taken a bribe of 150.000 ALL in exchange of a favor, but the police found only 120.000 ALL and there is no explanation why the rest is missing.

The prosecution says that based on the interceptions, Sallaku has asked 150.000 ALL from a citizen, in order to allow him to continue leasing a 80 m2 premise at the Sport Palace “Asllan Rusi”. The Prosecution declared that the money was handed over in the office of the defendant, and when police entered to perform the arrest, Sallaku hid the money in a flower vase.

In the last session, the defense lawyer Ardian Visha made a profile of his client by specifying that he has contributed in the Democratic Party and that he is religious, since on the day when he was caught, he was fasting.

Arrest measure for bribery

The former director of the national stadium “Qemal Stafa” appeared in front of Tirana court for the security measure, five days after the Financial Crime unit arrested him on bribe charges, based on the report of a citizen.

The court decided the security measure of 30 days to prison in order to verify in the meantime the pretensions of Gazmend Sallaku defending lawyers, who say that he is not in good health conditions. The prosecution read the police report and explained Judge Martin Deda that after recording the conversations, Sallaku asked from a citizen 150.000 ALL so that he could continue renting an 80 square meters shop in the Sport palace “Asllan Rusi”.

The prosecutor declared that the defendant took the money in the moment when the agents entered for making the arrest, but Sollaku hid them in a flower vase. At this point, the defending lawyer objected that the declaration of the accuser was not plausible, since the police report says that they found 130.000 ALL in the office and the other part is missing.

The defending lawyer also noted that the accused Gazmend Sallaku has no precedents, he has given a good contribute to the ruling Democratic Party and that he is religious. On the day when he was arrested he was fasting. Then the defence presented a medical report that says that the 41-year-old suffers from arrhythmia, but the prosecution objected and argued that this disease can be kept under control with ambulatory medication.
