Special Court in Hague, under Kosovo laws, for war crimes during 1999-2000

23/12/2017 12:32

The Special Court in Kosovo will deal with accusations of war crimes from 1999 to 2000. It is funded by the EU and respects the laws of Kosovo, although its judges and prosecutors will be internationally appointed.

The official headquarters of this Court will be in Hague, where the Kingdom of Netherlands has ratified the agreement for Kosovo’s specialized chambers.

High-level figures of the Kosovo Liberation Army may appear in this court for alleged crimes during and after the war with the Serbian forces. There will be charges of murders, kidnapping, illegal arrest and sexual violence.

This Court is seen as unilateral in Kosovo since it will try only former members of the KLA, who are considered as liberators by the Kosovo people. In Serbia, the Court has wide support due to the hopes to prosecute crimes against Serbs.
