The Albanian Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has reopened the investigation into the murders in the opposition protest of January 21, 2011 after a report filed by the families of the 4 killed on the main Tirana boulevard.

This was the answer of SPAK head Altin Dumani for Mark Nika, uncle of Aleks Nika, killed on January 21, 2011.

A few weeks ago, the families of the victims of January 21, submitted to SPAK a complaint against former officials Sali Berisha, Lulzim Basha, Ndrea Prendi and Agim Llupo, that in cooperation with each other, in the form of a criminal organization in violation of the law on the use of weapons, caused the death of four people.

In connection with this report, the newest evidence is also mentioned, an audio recording made public by journalist Artan Hoxha, from which former head of the National Guard, Ndrea Prendi can be heard ordering the use of weapons by the Guard.

For the first time, this document reveals that in the alleged recording, the voice of former Prime Minister Berisha can also be heard communicating orders.

The prosecution asks to make these verifications and if facts are found, the files are to be passed to this prosecution.

From the investigation of the January 21 file, there was no answer as to who killed Aleks Nika. The new facts include the tape with the recorded audio, which can shed a new light on the serious event of ten years ago, for which the families of the victims say that not all perpetrators have been investigated and punished.
