Spahiu: Parliament cannot discharge me

In an interview for the VOA, Spahiu underlined that the Parliament doesn’t have the authority for this, and that this initiative is a constitutional violation.

“The Parliament can investigate and discharge the President, the Ombudsman, the Chairman of the HCJ, but the Constitution doesn’t provide that they can remove the vice Chairman from his office, who can be discharged only by the leadership of the HCJ. We have a conflict here. The Parliament cannot take competences that it doesn’t have”, Spahiu declared.

He underlined that he hasn’t violated any constitutional amendment with his engagement in the Red and Black Alliance, although some of the recent requests have had a political character.

“I have been involved in civil activities and I am proud of this. There is no legal or constitutional conflict here, because a civil movement can ask the amend of the electoral code, or the guarantee of the vote, because this is a constitutional right. Five days before the Prime Minister asked my resignation as vice Chairman of the HCJ, I made a public declaration that I would resign, since the Red and Black Alliance will turn into a political party and I would not be allowed to continue”, Spahiu declared, by comparing the Parliamentary Commission of Laws with the meetings of the political bureau during the communist regime.

“This meeting was like Enver Hoxha’s meetings with the Party’s bureau.  And even Hoxha allowed his adversaries to speak, but the Parliamentary Commission of Laws asked the National Guard to make me leave the room”, Spahiu declared.

He added that the Red and Black Alliance is among the few civil movements that has spread in all Albanian lands, and even in the Diaspora. His confrontation with the government comes as result of different mentalities and doctrines.

“Our institutions needed a stronger patriotic sense. It is not up to me to say when the party will be created, but it aims to have thousands of supporters from throughout Albania”, Spahiu declared.

On the anniversary of the death of the Albanian national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu, the Red and Black Alliance announced the political program of this group.

Yesterday the RBA criticized the government about the decision for the creation of new Greek soldier cemeteries in Albania.
