SP rejects DP propositions for electronic vote and government funded electoral campaign

President Bujar Nishani proposed that the Parliament should have some reserved seats in Parliament for representing immigrants.

“Countries around us have found the right formula with reserved Parliament seats for emigrants”, Nishani said.

But the realization of this proposition is impossible now. He wants the Constitution to change for the electoral system, a matter that is not in the agenda of the electoral reform commission. However, the agenda doesn’t exclude emigrants completely. The SP has an old idea to make them part of the voting process, which they have given since when they were in opposition.

“If they can vote through the post office, that process needs to have a lot of inspection. I don’t think there is anyone who can contest it. If it is through the consulates, no one can think that our foreign service is politicized”, Balla said.

The Socialists favor the post office voting, a system they say is simple and less costly, with an envelope costing less than 20 EUR. They say this platform is similar to that of the Democratic Party for the elections, but has not been discussed officially in the commission. Together with their stance for the vote of emigrants, the Socialists made clear that they were against the two main articles of the opposition’s platform.

“We don’t have enough time for electronic voting. We cannot risk having the elections failed due to infrastructure”, Balla said.

The other proposition the SP rejected is about having 100% of the electoral campaign funded by the state.

“We cannot be the first country to fund 100% of an electoral campaign”, Balla declared.
