SP: “Reform within March. DP: Venice derails SP draft”

29/02/2016 00:00

The Chairman of the Justice Reform Commission, Fatmir Xhafa, was
optimistic for the support that the Venice commission has given to the
draft of experts, especially for the creation of the judiciary.

“This final opinion values as acceptable and efficient the structure of new justice institutions, propsed in the new Constitutional Project. It is not only naive, but also without any political profit. It goes against the public’s interest to continue and say that the Venice Commission has rejected the project for constitutional amends”, Xhafa said.

Just a few minutes later, the opposition said that the final Venice Commission opinion gave the opposition support for the concerns raised for the Constitutional amends.

“Unfortunately, this report derailed Rama’s draft”, he claimed, same as his colleague, Halimi, who said that Venice had supported the concern that the majority was capturing the justice institution. However, the opposition is now waiting for the reaction of the majority.

“There are issues that need political dialogue. It is up to the government and the majority to create conditions for a political dialogue that gives solution to all matters for which the Venice Commission is very clear about”, Halimi said.

The Chairman of the Commission, Fatmir Xhafa, answered to this declaration a priori, by saying that the majority is ready to accept any solution that makes the opposition a real part of the process.
