“Berisha forgets that a referendum for Constitutional amends needs the votes of two thirds of the Parliament”.

With this sentence quoted from article 177 of the Constitution, the Socialist Party declared that the Prime Minister is unable to lift the immunity law through a general referendum. According to the Socialist Party, the Constitutional referendums will pas only with two thirds of the Parliamentary votes.

“If Berisha keeps insisting that there is no need for justice reforms and for an independent judiciary, and if he is not ready to limit the immunity and the justice reforms, let’s decide in Parliament for a referendum, and let the popular vote decide about justice.

“This is an excellent occasion for the other amends that Berisha doesn’t want to discuss. Do the people favor a president elected by the people, or a president elected by the party in power? A prosecutor elected with qualified majority, or a prosecutor of the party in power? Are they for judges elected with qualified majority, or people who are imposed by the party? Let’s ask the people and see how they will respond to these matters”, declared the Socialist MP, Vasilika Hysi.
