SP, leadership of compromises voted

The Socialists constituted the new National Assembly by refreshing the leadership and seven secretaries.

The biggest opposition party in the country has started the preparations for the elections of 2013, by reorganizing the party with the aim to cover the entire territory with representatives that are able to collect votes.

Edi Rama underlined the important role of each of the national assembly members, by mentioning the “organization” word more than once, maybe for consoling all Socialists that he left outside the leading structures, despite the contribution.

“This is a bigger assembly, the first of the future electoral battle. Let us establish a territorial community that serves to the party and helps the leader in opposition and governing times, connecting it with the issues”, Rama declared.

The opposition leader proposed the names for the political council of the party, a group that he considered as the people with most experience: Servet Pellumbi, Ylli Bufi, Rexhep Mejdani, Gramoz Ruci, Pandeli Majko, Ethem Ruka, Maqo Lakrori, Luan Hajdaraga, Sabit Brokaj, Namik Dokle and many others.

Rama dedicated a long speech to the need for transmitting the Socialist program door to door, and presented the names of the coordinators for several sectors that are part of the program.

The novelty in this meeting was the counting method. The new members were to be elected with hidden votes and the counting should be electronic.

But this novelty worked only partially, because the members were counted in the traditional way, since the electronic machine were unable to read the ballots clearly.

After the electronic voting, Gramoz Ruci was voted by 190 members, out of 210.

The assembly also voted for the election of the secretariat, which now has three new secretariats: for the Coalitions, Emigration, Youth and Participation in Interest Groups.

The most voted was the MP Damian Gjiknuri, with 172 votes, who will lead the secretariat of electoral issues, followed by Fatmir Xhafaj, who will cover the coordination of the Socialist Party, and Ilir Beqaj, Secretary for the Program. They received 159 votes each.

30 candidacies were voted for the new leadership, which, according to Rama, were elected on regional affiliation grounds and the results produced in their electoral areas during the recent elections. Only 17 of them will be elected.

The members of the SP National Assembly have secured 5 from 10 possible candidacies.

The sources that followed the votes, say that the five women are: Mimi Kodheli, Eglantina Gjermeni, Arta Dade, Valentina Leskaj dhe Lindita Nikolla.

It is almost clear that Rama has tried to satisfy all groups within the party, which seems to be the main criteria of this election, maybe even more than merits.

A clear fact for this is the leadership list, which can be called the leadership of compromises. From the Movement for Different Thoughts was left out only Kastriot Islami, who was not present in the Assembly meeting.
