34 mandates in the Municipal Council of Tirana have been secured by the Socialist Party in power, thanks to 147,267 votes collected by the citizens of the capital.
The opposition coalition “Bashkë Fitojme” emerged as the second political force in Tirana, with 67,999 votes, securing 15 mandates in the Municipal Council.
The official Democratic Party will have 4 members and the Social Democratic Party will have 3.
Meanwhile, the Republican Party, the LZHK Progressive Alliance, the Justice Integration and Unity Party, the Knitting Initiative and the Joint Movement have managed to secure one mandate.
The disastrous results for the official faction of the official Democratic Party in Sunday’s elections were followed by the resignation of the commanded leader Enkelejd Alibeaj.
“As a sign of reflection and responsibility, I have decided to leave the leadership of the party and also the leadership position in the parliamentary group”.
Enkelejd Alibeaj’s decision is only a half-departure since he did not resign as vice-president, a function from which originated his duty of the commanding president.
“Now that the elections are over, I am leaving the management, I will continue to exercise my duty and responsibility towards the democrats, as vice-president and part of the Presidency of the Democratic Party”, said Alibeaj.
