Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Socialist Party is making public the facts that according to the
opposition show that Albania is swept by a deep energy crisis, which,
according to MP Arben Ahmetaj, is not a crisis of the water management,
but a financial one that has involved the entire energy chain.
“The daily consumption today is 18 million KWh and only 6 million are produced in Albania. This means that 12 million KWh are imported each day, and this will continue for the weeks to come. Each day we import 800.000 EUR. This means that KESH is obliged to import the difference, because CEZ has been refusing it for a long time and is unable to import the difference, for causes that we will make transparent in the days to come. KESH will be obliged to take other loans, and will deepen its financial collapse. Only in the last month KESH took 50 million of EUR in loans, with a guarantee from the state budget and the Albanian citizens’ taxes”, declared the Socialist MP, Arben Ahmetaj.
MP Ahmetaj brought to memory a declaration of the Minister of Finances about a new 100 million EUR debt for importing energy, a bill that according to him should be paid by the Albanian tax payers.
“The entire debt in today’s system, which includes mutual debts between companies, such as suppliers, banks and concessionaries, goes up to 1.2 billion USD. This is another pyramid scheme that the Albanian government is placing as a burden on the Albanian citizens’ back. The government has been unable to monitor the system. Not only the government has not done its job for managing the electro-energetic system, but they have passed the burden on the Albanian common citizen, the family consumer, the small and big businesses. The energy price in 2005 was 5.1 ALL for the family consumer, and today it’s 9.5, almost twice more expensive”, Ahmetaj declared.
According to Ahmetaj, the situation is so grave that we might be expecting the scandal of the century.
