The Socialist Party condemned with harshest tones the decision of
the Supreme Court for the sentence given to Ilir Meta, by releasing him
from the corruption charges.
According to the Socialist Party, this sentence gives the final blow to the Albanian justice, which has failed even in the past with high-profile corruption.
While visiting the local leaders of the town of Lushnje, Edi Rama commented the court sentence as a cynical mockery to the common people, by underlining that this is the first step towards the installment of a regime of injustice in Albania.
Through a press release, the Socialist Party considers the action taken by the Supreme Court of Albania as the most alarming proof that the rule of law and legal order has fallen;
as the most shocking proof for the fall of the constitutional principle: “Everyone is equal in front of the law”;
as the repeated and most undoubted proof that the Supreme Court and the judicial system are under the control of the political power of Sali Berisha;
as the consolidation of the “impunity culture”, after three consequent decisions by the same Court, for three flagrant cases of high-profile corruption;
as the confirmation of the close connections between criminal activity and the political power, with the Justice System as guarantee;
as the violation of the constitutional principle of “social justice”, which is the basis of the state, now replaced with “social injustice”, as the continuity of the governing process;
as the worst example of the judicial power complicity through a new wave of corruption, backed up by the government, with serious consequences for the national economy and the Albanian family;
as a direct and negative encouragement for profiling Albania as a hybrid and corrupted regime, far from the European family values.
The Socialist Party also considers this sentence as a direct refusal of the three key priorities set by the European Union for Albania:
-independent and professional justice
– war against high-profile corruption
– war against organized crime
The Socialist Party considers that Albania’s chances for the EU candidate status have been weakened even more,, and that democracy without justice is tyranny. The Socialists appeal the Albanian citizens to support their program for dismantling the corruption system
