Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Socialist councilors at the Tirana Municipality declared that during
the first year that Basha is Mayor of Tirana, 1700 businesses have
filed for bankruptcy after the tax increase.
According to Gent Gazheli, the annual business obligations have increased with two or three times, and not based on the annual turnover, but based on the Municipality’s clients.
“The small business in Tirana is going towards bankruptcy, due to the lack of liquidity and the trust crisis. What is evident is that only for 2012, after the data of the first semester, the number of closed businesses goes to 1700. It is not true that 1200 businesses have opened in Tirana. The figures are there and Basha knows it very well. He must tell the truth to the Tirana citizens. Consequently, unemployment has increased dramatically. This is not politics, but the facts that Mr. Basha must find the courage to say to the citizens who know very well that Tirana has been swept by an unemployment crisis”, Gazheli declared.
Gazheli referred to the bread price, for which the Mayor had declared in the electoral campaign that it would decrease.
“Did Basha reduce the bread price, as he promised in the deceiving campaign? The bread price today is the same, and even higher in some cases. He cannot laugh so openly at the poverty of the Tirana citizens, by not undertaking a real step that would facilitate them from the high prices, billed by the wrong policies of his government. Tirana is not cleaner than one year ago today. Tirana is not greener than one year ago. Tirana doesn’t have a better infrastructure, more safety or a better nutrition standard than one year ago”, Gazheli declared.
The Socialist councilors accused Basha of not keeping any of his electoral promises.
