SP: Berisha is not interested on EU integration

“We cannot accept that the immunity gets considered as extremely important for the country’s integration, which in fact is true, but not when the independence of the judiciary and war against corruption are completely ignored by the government. We do not accept that justice must still be kneeled down in front of Berisha’s power, when his real interest is not immunity or integration. All this propaganda aims only to cover the failure of this government”, declared the Socialist MP, Mimi Kodheli.

Together with this stance the Socialist Party has strengthened another position. After PM Berisha decided to hold a referendum for the immunity issue, the Socialists demanded to use the referendum also for other issues.

“Together with the immunity limitation, we must include our propositions that would guarantee the judiciary independence, the imported waste law and the maritime border agreement, through which Berisha is trying to give our land to the Greek neighbors for a second time. Let the Albanian people decide”, Kodheli declared.

The only disputable request of the Socialist Party is that of the other Constitutional amends, since the referendum request against the waste import has already started, while the maritime border agreement cannot be included in the referendum, because the Constitution does not allow treating in referendums issues that regard the country’s territorial integrity.

PD: Rama has a phobia against the citizens’ voice

Although the Democratic Party did not use these arguments, they considered the Socialists’ request as a blocking and absurd stance.

“Despite Rama’s phobia, the voice of the Albanian citizens will be heard and respected. The Democratic Party underlines that the Socialist threat for appealing other referendums as a response to the Democratic Party appeal for the immunity lifting referendum, is simply pathetic and ridiculous. The DP invites SP to use their referendum right for every issue that they consider as important. But they don’t do this, because they fear the citizens’ voice. Rama listens only to the billionaires of the Socialist Party, but after ten years of blocking, the politicians must be silent and leave it o the citizens. Albania is waiting for their verdict”, the DP Spokesperson declared.

Quoting article 150 of the Constitution that 50.000 signatures of the Albanian citizens have the right to hold a referendum. In the upcoming days, the majority will consult with the Parliamentary Legislative Council and the allies about the method that will be followed for the immunity lifting referendum.
