Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Under the motto “corruption with facts and figures”, the Socialist Party
started to report what they consider abusive expenses of some
Ministries of the Berisha cabinet.
Erion Brace opened the series of these reports with the Interior Ministry, which spent 1.6 million EUR during the period when it was led by Lulzim Basha, for the purchase of crowd control equipments.
“Lulzim Basha has presented a retired general as the contact person between the Interior Ministry, led by him, and their partners, another Interior Ministry of a country near us. The object of the agreement was the purchase of crowd control equipments. The value of the agreement is 1.66 million EUR. They have bought 2000 anti-crowd costumes, batons heavier than half a kg, helmets and protection units, with a price of 634 EUR per piece, with a total price of 1.268 million EUR. The transportation cost was 120.000 EUR”, Brace declared.
Braçe sais that such agreements were signed after January 21st.
“January 21st changed not only Berisha’s relation with the opposition and with most of the Albanian people that opposes his corrupted politics. January 21st changed the way how the public’s money are used, together with the funds created by the taxes paid by the Albanians, orienting them towards the purchase of military materials, which in Berisha’s concept are crowd control materials”, Brace declared.
Brace added that the 1.6 million EUR spent by Lulzim Basha could have been used for the citizens, but the government chose to buy equipments that can be used against them.
