The opposition was against the government’s plan to privatize four
state-owned hydropower plants. MP Eduard Shalsi declared that besides
the price, there’s the concern why hydropower plants should be sold,
when the state loses in the process?
“Our argument is related with the fact that the Albanian government has sold the Lanabregas hydropower plant with a price of 3 million EUR for every installed MW, and on the other hand, the four HPPs are being sold for 109.5 million EUR in total, meaning 1.4 million EUR for every installed MW. Let’s not forget that the Albanian government is paying loans for the investments made on these HPPs, which will still be paid by the Albanians. Our questions about the price differences have received no answer so far. Every Albanians’ question today is why these HPPs are being sold. What we lose and what we profit? The Albanian government has never published the balances sheets of these HPPs. Why this lack of transparency?”, Shalsi declared.
