The degradation started for years on the mural structure of the Gjirokaster castle has advanced, favored by humidity.
Although it does not show any danger for the surrounding buildings, the crack needs intervention in order to avoid further damage.
Problems in this area started five years ago, when a significant mass of stones and soil slided on the main road.
The Culture Monument Director, Albert Kasi, said a significant intervention is needed to isolate the danger, especially for vehicles and passerby citizens.
The Gjirokaster Castle is the most important monument of Southern Albania’s cultural heritage. It is first mentioned as a city and castle since 1336.
