Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The Socialist Parliamentary Group gathered behind closed doors and
discussed about the law about waste management, which was returned to
the Parliament for a review by the Albanian President, Bamir Topi.
The Socialist MPs will try to impede the blockage and this law through all democratic means, even to the most extreme, such as a referendum.
This will be the next step through which the Socialists will invite the Albanians to decide on this legal initiative that is very delicate and important.
The other discussions were related with the next Parliamentary session and the preparations for facing the political opponents.
The law for importing waste materials, passed by the Albanian Parliament only with the votes of the majority, was rejected by the Albanian President, Bamir Topi, who returned it in Parliament for a review.
This action caused the Environment Ministry to react and declare that the President’s decision had a political character, a declaration that was rejected with indignation by the Head of the Albanian State.
The Socialist Party pretends that this law will open way to the mafia affairs, which are deeply involved in the transportation of waste materials.
The decision of President Topi was greeted by the opposition leader, Edi Rama, who declared that this decision was right.
“That is not a law for the European Albania, or for a cleaner Albania. That law is made for creating incalculable wounds in the already hurt Albanian environment. The waste management mafia is known worldwide. The tragic events in other countries of the world, where this law was passed, is known worldwide”, Rama declared in his editorial.
