The ruling socialists chose tha Albanian ‘Democracy Day’ to hold their congress.
This congress finds the Socialist Party in the country’s third governing mandate, undisturbed by the deeply fragmented opposition, but under the pressure of investigations and several arrests of its officials for corruption.
The Socialists started the congress by proudly presenting the Justice Reform, while former Deputy Prime Minister Erion Brace through a chilling tone conveyed the pain of the Socialists for the 4 killed on the protest of the January 21, 2013.
The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, said that the socialists now feel more relieved after the Strasbourg decision on “January 21”.
“For us socialists, January 21 is a painful wound, but in this congress we feel a little relieved since the decision of the Strasbourg Court has finally paved the way for justice. The decision of the European court proves more than ever that justice never forgets the right,” said Manja.
On January 21, Socialist MP Erion Braçe called it a “shooting without trial” in the middle of the boulevard.
“The human rights convention clearly states that the victims were not users of firearms. Blood is not water, justice must be done”, Braçe said, among other things.
The Minister of State for Relations with the Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, did not spare the criticism of the opposition. Regarding the tensions in the last plenary sessions, she said that they lit fires in the Assembly hall, while the socialists light the lights from Shkodra to Saranda.
“This is the main difference with our opponents who behave like revolutionaries with the parliament, one of them, they start fires, we build by extinguishing their arson. They wind the clock back to the 1997 riots. We go as optimists, while they have lost their own hope”, said Spiropali referring to the opposition.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, presented the ambitious project for the construction of the underwater transmission line between Albania and Italy.
“Just like a few days ago we agreed with the Italian government and the transmission operators, for the construction of the transmission line between Albania and Italy, I know that our opponents are often upset, they never managed to do it because they were too busy with their mischevious acts”, said Balluku.
The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu spoke about a broad plan for the transformation of the education system in Albania. With the aim of improving the quality of education, one of the key steps according to Manastirliu, is the increase in salaries for teachers.
“Starting from 2024, the modernization of the curriculum framework for pre-university education. To align educational programs with the new times, reorganizing around social skills and general culture. We have shown with actions that we value teachers, that we have increased salaries for teachers. With the salary increase, we intend to keep talented individuals in Albania today and tomorrow. We aim not only to support talents but to guide them towards a career aimed at regular employment”.
