Socialist MPs demand extension of the amnesty for minor crimes; Democrat MP breaks the boycott

The government intends to extend the amnesty, which it says will benefit over 600 convicts, including 10 women and 10 minors.

The draft amnesty law was discussed in the parliamentary security committee, this chairman Nasip Naco emphasized the importance of the opposition’s vote to simultaneously approve the need for improvements and clarification from the drafters.

Deputy Bujar Çela and several other members of this commission, through questions addressed to the Deputy Minister of Justice Klajd Karameta, tried to elaborate the possibility of expanding the criminal offenses included in the amnesty.

“Two people who have been fistfighting, and under the influence of alcohol, cannot remain under house arrest. Even those for constructions without permission and obligation to appear”, said Çela.

Deputy Denis Deliu asked for an extension of the amnesty deadline until December 31, 2023 from November 30, 2023 and he had this request for the opposition colleagues.

Democratic deputy Ferdinand Xhaferi brought his contribution, through the filing of a legal amendment.

The chairman of the commission, Nasip Naço, postponed the discussion of the amnesty bill for another session pending the reflection by the Ministry of Justice after the proposals of the deputies.
