Socialist MPs absent at Commission of Laws

The Commission of Laws postponed once again the review of the Law for
the Supreme Court, which is considered important not only because
without its approval the Administrative Court cannot start working, but
also because this is one of the 12 key priorities of the country for the
European integration.

What caused another postponement of this qualified majority law was the absence of the Socialist Party MPs, who according to the Democratic Chairman of the Commission, Ilir Rusmali, used as a justification the fact that they had a preset agenda for Thursday.

Rusmali declared that the Democratic Parliamentary Group leader negotiated with the Socialists to be present in Parliament, but there was no success.

“I cannot tell you what these two high rank political personalities discussed, but I can refer to the result of this conversation. As you see, the personal agenda of the colleagues was stronger than the integration agenda. I have no other choice than to postpone the draft law”, Rusmali declared.

The absence of the Socialists did not stop the Democrats from passing another law of simple majority, the law of legal representation, which was part of the integration agenda and was included in the Action Plan that Albania must approve before October, when the EU candidate status will be declared.

The law amends bring three novelties, but the most important ones are the laws that punish the intentional delays of trials by lawyers. The new amends foresee even a license revocation for the lawyers that delay trials beyond reasonable deadlines, as it has happened so far with many of Albania’s famous processes.
