Snow blocks commerce too

“The goods are there, but we cannot reach them. The roads to Korce are blocked”, one salesman says.

“It’s not in the quantity it used to be. The weather has affected the Customs checkpoints, especially for Italy and Greece. There are weather difficulties in half of Italy”, another merchant says.

According to the salesmen, this has caused price increases in the market, with some goods even doubled, such as salad, spinach, onion and cabbage.

But the bad weather has had another consequence too. Wholesale traders say that the isolation has made them sell less.

“Some districts are covered by the snow and no one comes to buy”, they say.

This commercial stalemate not only creates financial losses, but it also reduces the government’s profit from taxes.
