The US Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, met the Albanian Ombudsman, Igli Totozani, at the Ombudsman building.

By valuing Totozani’s assignment with majority of votes and his important role for the society, Arvizu mentioned the situation in the mountainous areas of the country.

“I want to express the concern of the US for the people who have been isolated. We have been really worried for their situation and their well being. I hope that everyone will support them with anything they can, by joining the government and come to their aid. As for the Ombudsman, the expectations are very high. The Ombudsman has a very important Constitutional role in this country, and it is important to be allowed to exert its duty independently and without political influences from any party. I want to say to Mr. Totozani that we will commit to grant our support for as long that he will be exerting this duty, so that he can work independently and without political interventions”, Arvizu declared.

Totozani declared that the Ombudsman will be the citizens’ voice, and he appealed for helping the citizens that have been isolated by the snow.

“I guarantee Mr. Arvizu that the Ombudsman will continue to work for being the voice of the citizens who cannot be heard. It will be an independent constitutional voice, far from the political games. As regards the situation in the north, I appeal the civil society and every citizen to support the great work that is being given for helping these areas, and to show their solidarity, and why not, become volunteers for ending this situation without dramas and other problems in the citizens’ life”, Totozani declared.
